I was grieving in prayer for our prodigal son one day. Then a vision of a stony heart being broken open by the power of the cross came into my mind. I saw a new, vibrant heart rising out of the cracked broken rock. The verse in Ezekiel 36:26 about the stony heart and a new spirit came to mind.
I did a quick sketch before I could forget it. Then I shared it with my wonderfully talented husband, Tom. And I asked him to sculpt it for me. He created this beautiful sculpture to remind me of those sweet promises in Ezekiel.
The “Stony Heart” sculpture depicts the truth that a stubborn, stony heart can only be broken and replaced with a loving and settled heart by the power of God. This is accomplished through the Gospel. Jesus’ death on the Cross of Calvary for the sins of mankind and His resurrection power changes stony hearts.
No heart is too far gone that the Lord can’t save, heal and restore them. However, it takes the resurrection power of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, being invited to work in an individual’s heart to do that redeeming work.
I dedicate this design to all the Moms and Dads out there who spend their lives on their knees asking the Lord to intervene in their children’s lives. And to save them and bring them back with joyful, soft and tender hearts.
Never stop praying for your prodigals … Jesus says in Luke 18:1 “…they ought always to pray and not lose heart.”
